Abstract
The purpose of this study is to propose a new pole position estimation method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors, IPMSMs. This new method uses both back EMF and saliency effects without high frequency component injection. Only standard current sensors, which are inherently used for fundamental current control, are used to estimate pole position. The proposed method enables to estimate the pole position at low speeds and standstill. There are two estimation rules in this method. In this paper, first, authors introduce these estimation rules. Then, we explain how to switch these rules. Finally, we verify the validity of the proposed method by the experiment.
