Abstract
An adaptive IIR filter in a parallel form realization is applied to the identification problem of flexible structure. The filter is capable of identifying systems with distinct poles. The filter´s convergence rate is increased by whitening its exciting input through the discrete Fourier transform. The pole parameter update can be restricted within a sector of the unit disk, thus improving its convergence rate. This sector is typically determined by the a priori knowledge about the damping and the natural modal frequencies of the flexible structure dynamics
