Abstract
In this paper the wavelet-based edge detection problem is investigated. Symmetrical wavelets of infinite support are studied which possess many desirable properties for edge localization in images. A design method for the digital filters that compute the wavelet transform is presented. These filters provide the minimum length under a given truncation error specification. Our method leads to an improved result for edge detection and a reduced computational cost
