Abstract
This paper discusses the man-machine interaction processes as well as the procedures of processing and storing information and knowledge in collaborative engineering systems where both humans and computer procedures make decisions. Knowledge and model based approach is applied. The computer environment of an engineer is investigated. Then a model of the man-machine system is proposed. The approach is to model human and computer activities, their connections and human intentions. Following this, an explanation based intention saving method is outlined. Finally the possibilities of implementation of the modeling and intention saving methods are concluded
