  • Abstract
An alternative approach for synthesizing Arabic from unrestricted text is given in this paper. The method uses a set of sub-syllabic phonetic segments as the synthesis units from which unlimited vocabulary synthetic speech is generated. A prototype unrestricted text-to-speech system that uses the method has been implemented on a personal computer (PC). The resulting synthetic Speech is of good quality.
