Abstract
Competitive market conditions and narrowing profit margins are driving network operators to optimize their network and to find new sources of revenue. The first step of this optimization is to use one common packet network for voice, video and data traffic. In these networks SoftSwitches handle the voice and multimedia calls and control the media gateways to interface the packet network to the PSTN/ISDN networks
