Abstract
A recent method of performing multiresolution analysis is the multispline approach. We extend that idea to two-dimensional functions and perform image compression. In doing so, we propose using a “web” rather than a tree to index the dilates and translates of the basis functions. The advantage is that this offers a richer choice of basis functions at each stage. We include experimental results that compare the performance of our algorithm to the DCT and wavelet methods
