Abstract
Computing is marching towards Mark Weiserpsilas vision, in which this everywhere inherently calm and hidden power of computing and communication has to (be adaptable) emulate the humanpsilas smartness by using the context to anticipate the userpsilas needs, make proactive decisions to assist him in his tasks, and to adapt its behavior without explicit interaction with him. To realize the holistic vision of ubiquitous computing wepsilare, however, missing its global synergy: ldquohow to use the context knowledge smartly to find and securely access the right information, resources or services in a highly dynamic and heterogeneous domains, i.e.ubiquitous adaptability, and the convenient way to utilize these services, information or resources and provide them with minimal disturbance to the user, i.e. the adaptability approachrdquo. We claim that these limitations represent the main bottleneck for the widespread uptake of Ubicomp. Therefore, in this paper, we present a ubiquitous companion agent (UCA) framework which is based on an ontological context model to represent the contextual knowledge in a smart domain and we propose a semantic context-aware policy model which drives the UCA to provide appropriate contextual adaptation.
