Abstract
Network management technologies are being developed rapidly in recent years, primarily for the fixed network environment. The paper examines some unique characteristics pertaining to the wireless communications environment which dictate various network management capabilities and the designs of the communications equipment. It also provides an example to illustrate the evolution of these capabilities based on international standards
