Research on the conservation and development of historical towns and villages in China

In analyzing the dilemma of preservation in Chinese historical towns and villages, this paper proposes a participatory community planning approach, which can work well to avoid the normal problems of other approaches, such as over-emphasizing on short-term interests and physical heritage conservation, lacking of residents´ participation and support. The dynamic mechanism and regulatory mechanism in conservation of historical towns and villages also has been discussed in details.
