Abstract
This paper seeks to explore the integration of spectrum and network resource management functionalities for the benefit of achieving higher performance and capacity gains in an International Mobile Telecommunications-Advanced (EVIT-A) scenario. Supporting wider bandwidth up to 100MHz is one of the key features for EVIT-Advanced systems. Spectrum aggregation (SA) has been studied as a major solution. The SA algorithm based on cognitive science proposed in this paper aggregated spectrum fragments for users according to their different bandwidth demands whilst avoiding producing new smaller spectrum fragments as possible to reduce complexity burden on the communication terminals. Simulation results show that the SA algorithm significantly increased the spectrum assignment efficiency compared with existing solutions.
