London Water Control Centre

The London Water Control Centre (LWCC) at Hampton provides Thames Water with the capability to respond instantly to customers changing demands for water, well into the next millennium. This paper describes the design challenges and operational experience in building and operating the control centre. At the heart of the control centre is the worlds largest water supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA). The system is capable of monitoring up to 250,000 data points and controls the abstraction and storage of raw water, water treatment, distribution of potable water through the Thames Water Ring Main (TWRM) and zonal distribution systems to the customer´s tap. Enabling for the first time the total integration of the whole of London´s water from `Source to Tap´
