Abstract
We report on the performance of an optimized parallel channel coder for high-speed optical transmission systems. The coding properties are discussed by an evaluation of the signal statistics of the coded pulse train in the time and frequency domain. The discussion is mainly based on the results for the power spectral density (PSD) and the autocorrelation function (AKF). The theoretical investigations have been verified measurements with a developed 2.488 Gbit/s optical transmission system. Reliability studies have shown a system´s bit error rate below 10-13
