Abstract
1T (an abbreviation for terabit per second) channel transmission field experiments are reviewed and the expected performance of 1T channels in deployed fiber networks is shown. The main change from 100G channel design to 1T channel design is introduction of the superchannel concept, in which multiple optical carriers are used for one channel. One of the main tasks of next generation ROADM based DWDM network designs involving superchannels is to maintain a balance between easy light path management and high spectral efficiency.
