  • Abstract
The dielectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the solid solution: (1-x)Pb(In1/2Ta1/2)O3-(x) PbTiO3 [PIT:PT] have been investigated. A high dielectric constant and remanent polarization were obtained for compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary. In this system the morphotropic phase boundary was found to be located at a composition with x=38 mol% PT. For this composition, the dielectric constant was found to be 2300 at room temperature and increased to 13000 near 248°C. The remanent polarization for this composition was approximately 26 μC/cm2 and corresponds to a coercive field of 11 kV/cm. Finally, poled ceramics of the morphotropic phase boundary composition yielded a piezoelectric coefficient, d33, of 315 pC/N and piezoelectric coupling coefficients, kp and k31, of 37% and 20%, respectively
