Designing software for use by humans, not machines

The authors describe an architecture that supports a more user-centered way to design software applications architectures, and by using a specific example, they also describe benefits gained by the software applications that result. The architecture aims to resolve some management and maintenance problems which have arisen in the telecommunications support systems network specifically, but which the authors also envision arising in any large-scale, multivendor, database environment.
