  • Abstract
    An embedded GIS under VxWorks operating system platform is designed and implemented. This EGIS integrates GPS position function and GSM communication function. In this paper, the key problems of designing VxWorks-based EGIS, such as data storage and data index and so on, are resolved, the main function and the design of the kernel of EGIS is given. Especially, in order to improve the real time performance of map display with the limited computing and memory resource of the embedded environment, a parallel dual-buffer of EGIS data is defined and a preloading mechanism is designed. At last, the important method of communication between GUI task and Non-GUI task through the GSM/GPRS network is discussed. The experimental result demonstrates that EGIS integrating GSM and GPS has approvable real time performance and can be used in many application areas such as traffic monitoring and so on.
