Abstract
A theoretical analysis on HVDC damping modulation is described in this paper. First, the control mechanism of dc modulation is revealed through a kind of energy function. Using residues, the key factor that determines modulation effect is then indicated which gives an insight into the basic properties of dc damping modulation in large-scale ac/dc power systems. Use of remote signals in dc modulation is proposed. In the end of the paper, analysis and simulation results in a real power grid, the China Southern Power Grid, provide evidence for the theoretical analysis.
