Abstract
The strong absorption by water at 3 μm allows erbium lasers to efficiently and precisely vaporize most hard and soft tissues. With careful selection of laser host material, delivery system, and laser output parameters, erbium lasers can be optimized for the performance of numerous surgical procedures. Examples are discussed here, for procedures with widely varying requirements
