Abstract
A model-based systematic method for developing control systems of discrete manufacturing systems was proposed. A new model named ´expanded timed-state-chart´ is used here for representing the behavior of a target system. The control system itself is realized as follows. First, various information that is needed to complete the control system is extracted by utilizing several ´templates´ from the behavior model where all specifications for the control have been embedded. Then, it is input to the controller of interpreter type. Experiments for verifying the validity of this method were carried out by taking mini FA plant as the target system; and it was confirmed through the experiments that the model-based method proposed here is effective enough for developing and modifying such complex control systems of these sorts in systematical fashion.
