  • Abstract
Artery stiffness is one of the most important threats to the the health of modern people. It may cause some cardiovascular-related diseases such as stroke, hypertension, etc. For a long time, there is no effective and convenient method to monitor the status of arterial elasticity. However, recently there is an effective approach, spring constant method, proposed to assess the elasticity of artery wall. Therefore, based on this method, we developed a self healthcare system using smart phone to monitor the status of arterial elasticity. The system includes the arterial pulse acquiring and amplifier devices, analysis software for arterial elasticity using spring constant method, and the management of database in smart phone. The system can monitor the variation of aretrial elasticity and alarm the user for worse arterial elasticity. In addition, because of the mobility and friendliness of smart phone, we can establish a self-health management system to remind the user to take some ways to improve the elasticity of arterial wall, and expect to avoid the occurrence of urgent cardiovascular related diseases, such as stroke.
