Abstract
A new exact solution for the problem of inhomogeneous plane-wave diffraction by a perfectly conducting half plane is derived in which the incident inhomogeneous plane wave has an exponential amplitude variation in the plane of incidence. This is in contrast to previously reported solutions in which the inhomogeneous plane waves have the exponential amplitude variation in a direction normal to the plane of incidence. From the new solution, the diffracted field proportional to the slope of the incident field is identified.
