  • Abstract
CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins (C/EBPs) comprise a family of transcription factors that are critical for normal cellular differentiation and function in a variety of tissues. They are not only involved in normal processes of physiological metabolism but also are related to the occurrence and development of many kinds of disorders. C/EBPs have multiple modes in which they act as activators or inhibitors in regulating transcription. These factors, particularly C/EBPα and C/EBPβ, play an important role in normal myelopoiesis. New therapeutics that can stimulate C/EBP activity or mimic their dual effects should extend the reach of differentiation therapy in leukemia.
