Abstract
This paper describes a simple 2D model for the propagation of electro-magnetic (EM) pulses in human tissues. To assess the reliability of using this model for fast attenuation evaluation of UWB radar pulses in the body, the model is compared with a well known 3D FDTD numeric simulator using a simple multilayer geometry. Results from the 2D model were found in full accordance with the 3D one, allowing making a few considerations over the expected attenuation of UWB return echoes coming from the inner tissue interfaces in a typical medical UWB radar application.
