Abstract
College English Curriculum Requirements provides colleges and universities with the guidelines for English teaching to non-English majors in China. The development of individualized study methods and the autonomous learning ability on the part of students is the essence of this document. In Henan University of Urban Construction, four classes of sophomores have different views on teacher´s role in the English teaching and learning. It concludes that learners have the responsibility for learning and foreign language teachers are confronted with many new challenges, the teachers should assume the responsibility of paying attention to learners´ individual factors to meet the social demands.
