  • Abstract
A hybrid energy system is investigated on incorporating photovoltaic and small scale wind generator connected to a DC grid. In the system, a permanent magnet generator is driven by a variable speed diesel engine working in the optimum fuel efficiency mode. The experimental data indicates that the operation cost can be curtailed greatly by the variable speed diesel generator. The multi-power controller is applied to realize the seamless handover between variable speed diesel generator and renewable energy which take the advantages of maximum power point tracking. The complementary of wind and solar energy makes the reliability of the system reinforced and maintenance cycle prolonged.
