Abstract
An ASIC implementation of a Searching Processor to perform a very efficient and fast data search and the underlying storing algorithm are presented. The ASIC was developed to be integrated in an electronic pocket dictionary. However, it is easy to extend its domain of application by adapting a general purpose dictionary (for synonymous, translating or spell purposes) to another specific working environment, namely for legal, medical, commercial or technical applications, by allowing its ´customization´ through an additional EEPROM space. Considerable savings in memory space and searching speed were achieved in comparison with the software equivalent. An additional advantage is the proprietary protection.<>
