This paper introduces an appropriate model of unified power flow controller from the reliability evaluation point of view. The UPFC was devised for the real-time control and dynamic compensation of AC transmission systems, providing multi-functional flexibility required to solve many of the problems facing the power delivery industry. Also, UPFC is employed in the interconnected power systems to adjust the natural power sharing of two different parallel transmission lines and therefore enables the maximum transmission capacity to be utilized. Attending to the reliability studies importance in operation and planning of the power system, reliability modelling of the new devices which improve the system performance seems to be necessary. This paper develops the reliability model of structural components of UPFC, separately. Then, these component\´s models are used- to establish the extended reliability model of UPFC.
