PC based microprocessor development system

MICRODEV, a software development environment for PC and SDK-86-based microprocessor labs, is described. This is a menu-driven software package that provides a controlled environment for developing assembly language programs for SDK-86 microcomputer boards and stand-alone microprocessor based projects using PCs. The menu is implemented as a shell program that synthesizes a command line based on the user sections and passes that command line to a secondary DOS command processor. Each of the menu commands is described. The environment allows the power and availability of PCs and their development software (editors, assemblers, linkers, debuggers, etc.) to be combined with the educational power of the SDK-86 boards. By automating the software development process, students can concentrate on assembly language concepts rather than on MS-DOS and command line syntax.
