Abstract
This paper puts forward a new method of robust design, which innovates upon Taguchi method. According to the principle of direct sum method of the next round and of the fed-batch orthogonal experimental design combined with the analytical method of variance ratio analysis, a new method of robust design can be put forward based on the orthogonal optimum design and the variance ratio analysis. A lot of useful information about the tolerance in parameter design in Taguchi method has not been utilized, but in this new method each round of information received during orthogonal experimental implemented has been fully utilized. According to the result of variance ratio analysis, the parameter tolerance is obtained when the parameter optimization is carried out. Because it is not necessary to make tolerance design after parameter design and to use signal-to-noise ratio, quality-cost analysis and regression analysis, it is much simpler than Taguchi method and other robust design methods. By taking a concrete mechanical example which is quoted by Taguchi, the specific step of this new method is elaborated. In contrast with Taguchi method and other robust design methods, this new method of robust design is practicable, simple and suitable for engineers, and also is more helpful to raise quality and performance of products.
