Abstract
The investigation on the GPS based synchronized phasor measurement (SPM) and its application in power systems in PR China was started in 1994. Until now, there are more than four SPM systems have been put in operation, and a lot of similar systems are under development. In this paper, the history of the development of SPM technique in China´s power systems is reviewed briefly. An example SPM system and some of its measured results are introduced. The current status and the potential applications in this field are also discussed in the paper.
