Abstract
A simple and effective system level simulation for modelling the current loop of a boost derived power factor correction circuit is presented. Frequency responses obtained from simulations are shown to agree with those from established state space averaged models. Using these simulation results, the insufficiencies of an approximate model commonly used in current loop design are scrutinized and commented. In using the simulation approach proposed in this paper, the authors claim that insights on the limitations of a model can be gained by engineers in practice. In addition, because nonideal and parasitic effects are incorporated in the simulation. The model thus obtained is of high fidelity to the real physical plant
