Abstract
On the basis of the research on wooden architecture in East Asia, this paper argues that the ChaShou in Central Plains do have structural significances in early periods. For example, in Wei and Jin Dynasties, ChaShou had been widely applied, and in Sui and Tang Dynasties it also became the main component to support the ridged purlin. Then with the development of constructional technology, ChaShou was gradually replaced by ridge-mounting timber. In addition, due to the cultural migration, the culture of ChaShou was successfully brought to eastward from China, both Korea and Japan also had a great influence from it.
