Abstract
Electrical grade pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes are critical components in the design of many of today´s electrical and electronic components. Electrical grade PSA tapes are designed and manufactured using materials that balance the electrical, mechanical, thermal, environmental and safety requirements of specific applications. The tapes must remain physically and chemically stable in the presence of heat, humidity, and electrical stress. In selecting the appropriate electrical grade PSA tape for use in a component the design engineer must assess the critical requirements of the tape in the assembly process, post assembly processing and end use application. This paper discusses, in general terms, tape constructions, industry standards, and product selection criteria. Design engineers should work closely with their tape supplier in fully understanding the specifics of each product construction being considered
