Abstract
Discusses the program definition, the requirements that are driving the new system, and some of the ongoing programs to convert military technology to civilian use, including a technology reinvestment program. TASS is a program to develop an integrated aircraft and weather surveillance system. It would replace the existing ASR and TDWR systems with a single system accomplishing the same functions and providing added capability and benefits. TASS would also allow the decommissioning of the low-level wind advisory system The author briefly covers three point designs that have been accomplished for costing purposes and also covers the benefits of the new system. The designs are: single face rotating phased array radar, back to back rotating phased array radar and four face fixed radar
