Abstract
Recent progress of microdisk lasers and related components are summarized. Microdisk lasers achieve the record low threshold and large spontaneous emission factor by a very simple cavity. The behavior of lasing modes can be investigated using the near field probing technology. The microdisk waveguide is demonstrated with low propagation loss
