Abstract
We describe a geometry employing multilayer dielectric stacks (MDS), showing that extremely narrowband components may be realized with as few as three dielectric layers. The geometry of the basic device structure, with parameter definitions, is shown. A notch filter of one tenth nanometer FWHM for DWDM can be achieved by the multilayer overlay structure that has been proposed. The parameters (i.e. index, thickness, and the number of layer) associated with the DMS play a considerable role in the optical performance of the filter.
