Abstract
The authors investigate the modelling of single-phase line-start permanent-magnet motors using finite-element analysis. It is shown that finite-element modelling is capable of giving very accurate predictions when compared with test results, for both skewed and unskewed motors. The skewed motor is also modelled using an analytical method. The accuracy of the finite-element method is contrasted with that obtained using the analytical method
