Abstract
Forward error correction (FEC) is an important factor in system performance for code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Several alternative coding techniques are available, including “trellis codes” specifically designed for CDMA, very low rate convolutional codes, and conventional convolutional codes. We develop analytic results which may be used to compare alternative coding techniques for CDMA systems. Several improved analysis techniques are now available for CDMA systems. We show how these techniques may be extended to analyze the performance of CDMA systems with error correction. The bit error rate (BER) of a coded CDMA system is analyzed in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and frequency nonselective Rician fading (FNRF) channels. Results are presented which compare the performance of various coding techniques, and compare analytical results with simulations
