Abstract
The paper discusses on EIA, or the electromagnetically induced absorption, as a consequence of transfer of coherence (TOC) by spontaneous emission between the excited and ground degenerate states. The paper also explains a different mechanism, the transfer of population (TOP) or optical pumping, which can also lead to EIA peaks in the absorption spectrum of a degenerate two-level system.
