Abstract
This paper focuses on the design and theoretical modeling of a Solar ThermoPhotoVoltaic (STPV) system. Different emitter design options are explored and finally an optimum design is presented with minimum TPV cell area requirement. Concentrated sunlight is used to heat up the Silicon Carbide (SiC) emitter. Effect of Sunlight concentration on emitter temperature is also investigated. GaSb cell is used in simulation and its external quantum efficiency (EQE) is modeled by 10th degree polynomial equation. A complete thermal analysis is performed to evaluate the conditions for optimum system performance. Theoretical system efficiency is also calculated for the proposed STPV system.
