  • Abstract
    A multiresolution signaling scheme is a modulation technique in which multiple data streams of possibly different rates and reliability requirements are transmitted in parallel over a single channel. This paper presents a multiresolution signaling scheme based on a hybrid of frequency-shift keying and amplitude-shift keying. It is shown that this modulation scheme provides flexibility in providing different reliability requirements for two simultaneous data streams. Practical demodulation techniques for this signaling scheme are presented that are compatible with frequency-hop spread-spectrum transmission and do not require knowledge of signal and noise strengths on each dwell. The performance of the signaling and demodulation schemes are determined and discussed
