Abstract
FEM methods for calculating electromagnetic fields have long been available. Theoretically it is possible to solve many different tasks using these methods. In practice however, we encounter certain limitations during the design of power transformers, particularly with regards to the magnetic calculations. Some obstacles bring the method itself, some are given by material characteristics and perhaps the greatest is based in geometry. These obstacles are discussed in this article and analyzed.
