  • Abstract
This paper presents an innovative DC power generator scheme using the mixed-pole synchronous reluctance machine having two stator windings. The power windings deliver the DC power to the load, with the control windings acting as the vehicle for excitation. The excitation process is established by connecting the generated DC voltage to the machine´s secondary windings through a DC-DC buck converter. This generator scheme is envisaged for stand-alone applications requiring regulated DC voltage or current and in charging batteries in electric automotive applications. The dynamic and steady-state models of the generator topologies are set forth and used to calculate steady-state performance characteristics, simulate starting transients and steady-state waveforms which compare favorably with experimental results
