Abstract
This paper presents a computer-aided design and development of a high performance, passive temperature compensated permanent magnet torquer used in a dynamically tuned gyroscope (DTG). In the new scheme arrived at using finite element analysis, the direct leakage path between two permanent magnets in the torquer is primarily made use of along with the conventional shunt compensation in an optimum way, which resulted in complete temperature compensation over an operating temperature range from 0°C to 70°C, even though the airgap is comparatively larger. Valuable inferences on positioning of temperature compensating alloy in a permanent magnet circuit are also given. The test results confirm the validity of the finite element model and also the high performance of the developed permanent magnet torquer
