Abstract
Microstrip patch antenna is narrow band but can be made wide band by a U-slot cut on the patch, around the probe feed at the patch centre. This arouses an interest in whether slots of other shapes can give similar wide band performance. A 45° view of the logo of the City University of Hong Kong is the letter W which is the letter U with an extra dent in the middle. A microstrip patch with a slot of the City University logo should therefore be wide band. With minor adjustments of the logo, this is found experimentally to be the case. This paper ends by pointing out that the slot, in the form of the logo and its subsequent adjustments, will form a part of the evidence leading to a general theory of broadbanding by slots on patch antennas
