  • Abstract
    This paper proposes an efficient image compression algorithm based on visual perception. It automatically detects the important regions using saliency maps, then different regions are compressed in different qualities. Several adaptive methods are compared. This algorithm is expected to provide efficient image transmission through band-limited networks
