Abstract
With the usual encoding procedures, aimed to optimize the coding efficiency, all present standard video compression protocols perform very poorly when transmission errors are present. Based on the knowledge of the channel statistics and the protocol syntax, we develop a model that evaluates the sensitivity of image pels to transmission errors. This model is employed to modify the encoding strategy in order to increase the resilience of the compressed bit stream in noisy environments
