  • Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive reconstruction of the lost blocks of DCT based images over unreliable channel is presented. The DCT coefficients in the lost blocks are recovered by interpolation using the available neighboring blocks that are adaptively selected using the difference of DC opposite blocks (DDC). The previous methods in the DCT domain could not yield a good quality for the edge regions because the correct estimation of direction by exploiting the DCT coefficients of correctly received neighboring blocks is difficult. Reconstruction using DDC is efficient in recovering the edge, texture and smoothness regions. And the masking of the DCT coefficient can remove unnecessary DCT coefficients. Simulation results show that the quality of the recovered image is satisfactory.
