Abstract
This paper proposes a new speed controller based on the fuzzy tuning method for electrical motor drives. It is a two-degree-of-freedom, PI controller of which the parameters are modified during operation by incorporated fuzzy tuners. As the expert knowledge implemented in the fuzzy tuners can be modified or extended, an intelligent and flexible control system is obtained. The new speed controller exhibits superior transient performance over that of the conventional PI method, and provides additional design freedoms to account for other design objectives
